Introduction

When we think of mouse pads we think about square-ish floppy foam, or even thin textured plastic ones that slide around and have to be secured to the desk just to stay in one place. With earlier versions of mouse pads we were constantly making sure they were clean or overly careful of spilling something on them. Well friends, we don’t have to worry about that anymore. The InWin BATMAT mouse pad is washable, water resistant and scratch resistant because it is constructed with aluminum. That’s right folks, just throw it in the dishwasher and call it good.

Personally I got tired of dealing with the older mouse pads, constantly moving, small in size and ruined if something spilt on them. I would rather use the desk surface than put up with the hassle. Is the BATMAT durable and constructed well enough to change opinions about mouse pads? Continue reading to find out!

Packaging and Specs

Product type: Mouse Pad

Color: Black

Material: Aluminum & Natural rubber

Dimensions: 350 x 263 x 3 mm

Weight: 450g

Origin: Taiwan

The BATMAT is packaged in a plastic container that simply clips together. Inside the packaging, the mouse pad has a sleeved informational sheet that wraps around the center. The front of the sleeve lists the InWin logo at the top and “BATMAT” in bold lettering. Just beneath InWin lists the features about it’s design. On the bottom right of the packaging, there’s a small hole in order to feel the texture before purchasing, so you can confirm the smooth surface.

Taking a quick look at the back of the packaging, we notice the sleeve showing a multi-lingual list of more specific details of the constructive features and specifications.

Let’s move onto the actual mouse pad…

Closer Look

As we take the BATMAT out of the packaging, I realized they did an outstanding job on it’s thin and light construction. Even being only 450 grams, I thought it would have a little more heft to it. The diamond cut outline gives the accessory some character .

InWin has engraved their name into the bottom center making it visible without affecting the surface performance.

The surface has a black iodized 3mm thick aluminum surface. The edges are coated with a chrome siding.

The back of the mat is constructed of natural rubber. The non-slip rubber effectively holds it in place from sliding around the desk. I was surprised with how stable it was, because I’m not very gracious with my mouse movements.

Here’s a closer look at the actual rubberized bottom.

Let’s see how well the mat handled in testing.

Testing

I tested the BATMAT in gaming situations with first person shooters where accuracy is imperative. I also tested it in regular, day to day activities. As I mentioned in the introduction, I was previously using the desk surface, but while this method worked, I had to watch debris.

While using the InWin pad, I didn’t have the issue from previous mouse pads of sliding all over the place. I was extremely happy with its performance as the mouse didn’t jump around and was easy to maneuver. When first testing the mouse pad, I realized that it was extremely cold due to its material and I had to adjust the way I held the mouse. The one thing that amazed me the most is that it wasn’t noisy moving the mouse over the surface.

Conclusion

InWin did an extremely good job in the design and construction materials used on the BATMAT. I’ve been using the BATMAT for a week as of this article and can honestly say that I’m sold. Although it has a very large surface and takes a lot of desk space, it is very comfortable and easy to use. Not that I would ever need to, but I could easily fit two mice on here comfortably without getting in the way of each other. The surface is amazingly smooth and easy to clean. InWin recommends not using chemicals for cleaning in order to keep the surface integrity, but a damp washcloth worked great. As far as the natural-rubberized base, I had no issue of it slipping or being re-positioned.

With that being said, the BATMAT is the cutting edge in technology. Quite literally! I found its construction to have extremely sharp edges around the top and bottom design. Other than that, the BATMAT from InWin is definitely a well constructed mouse pad that has changed my mind about them.

I’ll definitely be using this from now on. Although there are some great features the one huge factor that I can’t get over thinking about is the safety. The sharp edge on the product is something to thing about. If this is something you can work around, then the price of $39.99 USD and is well worth the wait. The BATMAT isn’t currently available, but it should hit store shelves around or near November 21, 2013. The InWin BATMAT easily earns the PureOverclock Great Hardware Award.
